Evaluation Flashcards
Clinical evidence
Strength
KF had brain damage and had poor STM ability for verbal info
E.g difficulty with sounds but could process visual information
Only phonological loop was damaged while other areas have been left intact.
Supports existence of separate stores.
Dual task performance
Strength suppor sets separate existence of visio spatial sketches
Baddeley. Pp had difficulty doing two visual tasks than one verbal and visual task
Two visual task means competeing for the sqme system
Must be seperate sub systems
Lack of clarity over central executive
Limitation as ce does not explain anything.
Ce needs to be more than just attention
E.g. some sychologist believes it is made up of many separate components
Wmm not fully explained.
Studies of the word
length effect support
the phonological loop
Baddeley et al. (1975) demonstrated that people find it more difficult to remember a list of long words rather than short words. This is word length effect
Because there is a finite space
for rehearsal in the articulatory
process (about two
seconds’ worth).
The word length effect disappears if a person is given an articulatory suppression task means that your
articulatory process is kept busy.
Shows pl is an important part of wmm
