Eutrophication (N) Flashcards
1
Q
What is eutrophication?
A
Eutrophication is the increase in plant-available nutrients (N,P,K)
2
Q
Where do these nutrients come from?
A
They can come from outside the system (atmosphere, aquatic) or from within the system via the mobilisation of nutrients stored within the system (microbial - increased decomposition)
3
Q
What is the natural vegetation succession over time?
A
- Organic matter increases
- N availability increases
- pH decreases
Shifting from competition for nutrients to competition for light
