  • The story of the French fries: Farmers that lived along the river Meuse ( Meus) would always eat fried fish. But, during winter, when the river froze instead of fried fish they fried potatoes. The American soldiers discovered the dish during World War One and since French was spoken in that area they named them French fries.

in 1903 It was set up and sponsored by French sports paper L’Auto, which hoped a tough new endurance race around the country would capture the public’s attention and sell more newspapers.

It was a hit and is still going strong 120 years later!

A

There have been attempts to create a women’s equivalent to the Tour de France. Although there was a competition between 1984 and 1989 it suffered from a lack of funding and popularity.

However, in 2022 a new competition was created, Tour de France Femmes!

It lasts 8 days and starts on the last day of the men’s race!
