Eukaryotic Cells And Orangelles Flashcards
What is the plasma(cell surface membrane) made of
Mainly lipids and protein
Function of plasma
Regulates movement of substances into and out of the cell. Has receptor molecules which allow it to respond to chemicals like hormones.
Description of nucleus
Large organelle surrounded by nuclear envelope(double membrane), which contains many pores. Contains chromatin and nucleolus
Function of nucleolus
Makes ribosomes
Function of nuclear pores
Allow substances to move between the nucleus and the cytoplasm
Description of lysosome
Round organelle surrounded by membrane with no internal structure
Function of lysosome
Contains digestive enzymes
What do digestive enzymes do
Digest invading cells or break down worn out components of the cell
What are ribosomes made of
Proteins and Rna. Not surrounded by a membrane
Description of RER
System of membranes enclosing a fluid filled space, surface covered with ribosomes
Function of RER
Folds and processes proteins that have been made at the ribosomes
Function of SER
No ribosomesm synthesises and processes lipids
Function of vesicle
Transports substances in and out of the cell and between organelles
Description of Golgi apparatus
Group of fluid filled, membrane bound, flattened sacs
Function of Golgi Apparatus
Processes and packages new lipids and proteins. Makes lysosomes
Description of mitochondrion
Oval shaped, have a double membrane
Function of matrix
Contains enzymes involved in respiration
Function of mitochondrion
Site of aerobic respiration where ATP is produced
Description of chloroplasts
Surrounded by a double membrane, has membranes called thylakoid membranes
Description of centrioles
Small hollow cylinders made of microtubules. Found in animal cells but only some plant cells
Function of centrioles
Involved with separation of chromosomes during cell division
