Eukaryotic cell structures 2 Flashcards
What is the structure of the nucleus?
Nucleus contained in a double membrane called a nuclear envelope
The nuclear envelope has nuclear pores on it
What protein is found inside the nucleus?
Histone protein
What does histone proteins do?
They form chromatin
Which cools and condenses to form chromosomes
What is the structure of mitochondria?
A double membrane
Inner membrane is called cristae
Fluid section is called matrix
What do mitochondria contain?
DNA
Can mitochondria reproduce?
Yes, as it contains DNA it can also make its own enzymes
What are vesicle structure?
They are sacs filled with fluid
What is the cytoskeleton?
A network of fibres that provide stability and strength to the cell, they hold all the organelles in place
What three components make up the cytoskeleton?
Microfilaments
Microtubules
Intermediate fibres
What are microfilaments made of?
Actin
What are microtubules made of?
Tubulin
What do microtubules do?
Cell division
Spindle fibres made from microtubules 9+2 arrangement
Cell movement
What are the structures of microtubules?
They are railway tracks that control the movement of organelles
What do microfilaments do?
Help with cell movement
Provide strength
What do intermediate fibres do?
Extra structural support
