Eukaryotic cell organelles Flashcards

1
Q

what is the structure of the nucleus?

A

it contains a dense structure called the nucleolus, it is surrounded by the nuclear envelope (two membranes separated by fluid) which contains nuclear pores (Allows big molecules to pass through)

Q

what is the function of the nucleus?

A

contains nearly all the cells genetic material. creates ribonucleic acid and ribosome which travel out of the nucleus

Q

what is the structure of smooth and rough ER?

A

the ER is found near the nucleus, it is made up of a number of flattened sacs called cisternae. rough ER it has ribosome on its surface where smooth does not

Q

what is the function of Golgi apparatus?

A

modification of proteins received from the ER, these are then transported in vesicles around the cell

16
Q

what is the structure of ribosomes?

A

composed of two subunits

17
Q

what is the function of ribosomes?

A

translate genetic information in the form ofd mRNA into proteins

18
Q

what is the structure of the cell wall?

A

microfibrils of cellulose

19
Q

what is the function of the cell wall?

A

provides mechanical strength to create an inward pressure on the cytoplasm

20

how can you tell a cell is a eukayote?

A

if it has membrane bound organelles
