Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
Name 2 unique features of a prokaryotic cell
-A single loop of DNA free in the cytoplasm
-An additional circular piece of DNA called a plasmid, used to
transfer genetic material from one cell to another
What is a prokaryotic cell?
Cells of bacteria are called prokaryotic cells.
What is a eukaryotic cell?
Cells of animals, plants and fungi are called eukaryotic cells.
What organelles/features does an animal cell contain?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, ribosomes, mitochondria
Name 2 difference’s between a prokaryotic and a eukaryotic cell
A eukaryotic cell has its DNA in a nucleus whilst prokaryotic cells’ DNA is a single molecule, found free in the cytoplasm. Most prokaryotic cells are around 1μm whilst most eukaryotic cells are 5 μm – 100 μm.
