What’s the meaning and importance of the Catholic Mass?
Give 4 reasons.
Firstly, we receive God’s grace to help us grow in faith and live as he wants.
Secondly, in the Holy Eucharist we receive God’s body, blood, soul and divinity. Jesus now lives in me and helps me to live as he wants.
Thirdly, our sins are forgiven in the “I confess” prayer. Now I am close to God and more worthy to receive him at Holy Communion.
Lastly, we are re-enacting the last supper, making memorial of it. We are remembering and making present Jesus’ sacrifice.
What does grace mean?
God’s love and blessing.
What does memorial mean?
It is an act or object which holds something in a people’s collective memory.
In the Paschal Candle, what does the flame represent?
The flame represents that Jesus is the light of the world.
In the Paschal Candle, what does the alpha and the omega represents?
The alpha and the omega are the first and the last letters of the Greek alphabet. This means that Jesus is at the beginning and the end of everything.
In the Paschal Candle, what does the year represent?
The year represents that Jesus is king of all time, even this year!
In the Paschal Candle, what do the 5 grains of incense represent?
The 5 grains of incense represent the 5 wounds of Christ.
What is the exsultet?
It is a hymn of praise sung at the Easter Vigil after the lighting of the Paschal Candle.
