A

A

To set the broad political agenda of the EU, i.e. large sensitive issues. It has also become the motor of European integration.

A

It proposes legislations to the Council of Europe/EP, and then ensures that the rules are applied afterwards (watchdog). It also manages the budget and negotiates trade agreements, etc.

705 MEP’s. (Members of European parliament) - elected directly in the member states every 5 years. Number of MEP’s per member state is based on the countrys size.

What is the role of the European Parliament?

A

Co-decision making. Responsible for legislation, supervision and budget. It decides on international agreements and new member states.

What is the role of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU)?

A

It interprets EU laws and the decisions are binding on national authorities and courts.

A

A

1952 as Parliamentary Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community, 1962 it became the European Parliament, with its first direct elections in 1979
