Chinese and Indian pupils tend to be above national average

Cultural deprivation:
- (Driver and Ballard) automatically put down a grade if first language isn’t English
- Accents cause negative teacher labelling
- (Driver and Ballard) high expectations from close-knit families
- (Archer and Francis) Chinese parents value education highly
- Less support from single-parents in African families
Material deprivation:
- Chinese and Indian groups are likely to be higher class
- FSM are good indicators of material dep.
