What is Natural Law?
“Moving along the grain of nature” - Working out what is best for human flourishing.
What is human Law?
The laws by which God created and controls the world.
What is eternal Law?
The world goes with God’s will and nothing else.
What is divine law?
The “word of God” revealed to man, e.g. the ten commandments.
What is synderesis?
The natural inclination to “do good, not evil”
What is Eudæmonia?
Aristotle’s idea of Eudæmonia means “flourishing” which is about fulfilling one’s full potential. This is seen in Natural Law.
What is Aq.’s purpose of life?
To be united with God. We must do good, be like God and use human, natural and divine law to do so.
What is the difference between Ius and Lex?
Ius- justice, the general principle of the law. Lex - legislation, regards written law, legislation.
What are the 5 primary precepts?
Preservation of human life
Order of society
Worship of God
Edcuation
Reproduction
What is prudence?
The ability to govern and discipline yourself in accordance with reason.
