Voluntary participation
Should not be forced or pressured into a study
make sure people know that it is voluntary
Informed Content
The participants are informed of procedures and risks of the study before they agree
Researchers have to make sure people are informed about:
- Purpose
- Treatment
- Duration of trial
- Side effects
- Rights of participents
Anonymity
Identifying information should be hidden in order to protect identity of participants
Better to fill out the answer sheet than ask them directly
sometimes impossible
Confidentiality
If anonymity is not possible confidentiality is more important
Definition:
Protection of information supplied by research participants from parties
No fabrication/ data manipulation
With respect to data, researchers should be transparent about….
- what data was acquired
- how the data was acquired
