What’s a moral?
Making decisions, the right thing to do. How to live well.
What do you call someone who performs moral decisions?
A moral agent.
What are the two types of ethics called?
Deontological approach
Consequentialist approach
What’s a Deontological approach ?
There are absolute rules that should be followed at all times. They think they have a duty to follow these rules in all situations.
What’s a consequentialist approach?
Only the consequences determine whether an action is good or bad. What we should do depends on the situation. There are no fixed rules.
What good features does a person have?
Trust, selfless, honesty, respect, kindness, happiness, understanding, friendly, charitable, not judgemental and encouraging.
What is a virtue?
A virtue is an ‘excellence of character’. It is a habit we can learn to develop.
What are the seven heavenly Virtues?
Charity, Chasity, diligence, humility, kindness, patience, temperance.
What are the seven deadly sins?
Pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, sloth
What are sources of moral authority for Christians?
Bible, church, conscience, prayer, reason.
What’s a Moral principle ?
A rule or guideline about right or wrong behaviour
What are Christians moral principles?
Do not kill, do not steal, do not lie.
What’s the golden rule?
Treat others as you wish to be treated
What’s situation ethics?
It’s a Christians ethical theory.
Explain situation ethics further
In each situation we should aim to do the most loving thing, even if this means breaking moral principles e.g. stealing or killing. We can not advance what we will do - each situation is different. It’s based on Jesus’ commandment to ‘love your neighbor’.
