ethics Flashcards
informed consent?
participants should know enough about a study to decide whether they want to agree to participate. in lab experiments, this is usually clear.
when may it be necessary to deceive participants?
if the study’s aim needs to be hidden from participants in order to accurately determine the cause and effect relation between the IV and DV, deception is necessary so that they don’t know what researchers are testing and then change their behavior
privacy?
avoiding the invasion of participants emotions and physical space. participants should not be observed in situations or places where they would not expect to be seen
confidentiality?
participants results and information should be kept safely and not released to anyone outside of the study. if participants are unaware of data collection (such as in a field experiment) it is important to ensure they cannot be individually identified (for example, by their place of work)
