2 exceptions to Informed consent for procedure
- Life saving procedure in an emergency where obtain consent is not possible.
- Extension of an authorized procedure if an unexpected complication arises that demands immediate treatment Typically related to original indication for treatment.
Therapeutic isinformation
Patients belief that participation in a clinical trail will offer access to therapeutic advantage (e.g. superior care)
Physician counseling to patient desiring to enter clinical trail
Patient should not be encouraged or discouraged to participate. Physician should counsel that patient may not receive direct benefit from trail (placebo, no established benefits, inferior tx, ect.). And allow patient to decide for themselves.
Accepting gifts
Decisions on accepting include the cost, type, motivation and timing of the gift. Gifts should not be accepted from patients experiencing a mood episode potentially affecting their judgment.
