A
First seizure
- type 1: 6 month ban
- type 2: 5 year ban
Multiple seizures
- Type 1: 12 month ban
- Type 2: ban until seizure free for 10 years at least
Stroke / TIA
- Type 1: at least 1 month ban
- Type 2: at least 1 year ban
Cardiovascular / unexplained syncope
- type 1: temporary ban (whilst under investigation)
- type 2: temporary ban (whilst under investigation)
ACS
- Type 1
- –> 1 week ban if successfully treated e.g. angioplasty
- –> 4 week ban if no angioplasty (or CABG)
- Type 2: at least 6 week ban, then exercise testing
ICD
- Type 1: at least 6 month ban (longer if ICD discharges)
- Type 2: permanent ban
HOCM
- Type 1: no ban
- Type 2: permanent ban
Diabetes with hypoglycaemia unawareness
- banned from type 1 and type 2 driving
Diabetic retinopathy
- type 1: variable
- type 2: banned
Diabetes
- Type 1: 1, 2 or 3 year licence, no longer as long as good hypoglycaemic awareness and meets visual standards, no severe waking hypos within 3 months
- Type 2: requires annual licence renewal providing:
- –> Free of hypoglycaemic episodes during past 12 months
- –> Full hypoglycaemic awareness
- –> 3 month record of glucose monitoring carried at least twice daily
