Where two choices may be less than ideal. One should choose the situation that will do the least amount of harm to the fewest number of people.
Least Harm
Situations that may provide the greatest benefit to the most people; organ donations
Utilitarianism
The duty or responsibility guiding the decision based on action and not the end result
Deontology
Individual’s right to self-determination, or a patient having the right to decide what happens to him or her
Autonomy
Instead of taking others into consideration, involves thinking oneself in the decision-making process
Egoism
Promoting good of others, or providing services that will help others
Beneficence
The belief that other people are more important than an individual person, wherein a personal sacrifice must take place.
