What are the ethical principles that have a direct effect on nursing practice?
Autonomy, Beneficence, Nonmaleficence, Veracity, Fidelity, Justice
Define: Autonomy
Independence or freedom, ability to make one’s own decisions, even when it may not be in that person’s best interest
Define: Beneficence
Action that promotes good for others without any self interest, benefits the client
Define: Nonmaleficence
Doing no harm, or the least amount of harm to the client, while trying to achieve the best possible outcome
Define: Veracity
Commitment to tell the truth
Define: Fidelity
keeping promises or commitments
Define Justice
fairness in care delivery and use of resources
