A
The impact/consequences psychological research has on the rights of other people in a wider context, not just the participants
taking part in the research.

What is social sensitivity?
A
- Studies that have potential social
consequences for either the participants themselves or those represented by the study - E.g. Bowlby’s Theory of Attachment is socially sensitive as it could be used to
coerce mothers to stay at home

What are 4 parts of the research process that raise ethical implications in socially sensitive areas?
A
- The research question - ‘Are there racial differences in IQ?’ may be damaging
- Conduct of research and treatment of participants - right to confidentiality and anonymity
- The institutional context - should be mindful of how the data is going to be
used and consider who’s funding it - Interpretation and application of findings - how findings might be interpreted & applied in the real-world, could be used to inform policy
