Q

Why should the possible uses of research be considered before a socially sensitive study is conducted?

A

Findings may be misused and abused
E.g. One study claimed sales of popcorn and Coca-Cola increased when images were flashed on a cinema screen too quick for audiences to be aware of. This lead to marketing companies using subliminal messages to try and advertise their products. Although, this did little damage it shows how misuse of research could lead to the manipulation of the public.
