Q

what did Sieber and Stanley outline and what were they?

A

they outlined the 4 aspects of the research process that raise ethical implications especially in socially sensitive research
these are:
the research question - should not add any prejudice or stereotype for example, are there racial differences in IQ
the methodology used - info should be kept confidential during the whole research process
institutional context - if the research is being funded by gov or an institution, the researcher should ensure data is not misused in any way
interpretation/application of findings - ensure interpretation of data has no impact on the participants involved in study/group represented

Q

example of socially sensitive research - what was wrong/what were the effects?

A

Yerkes - army mental tests.
- Questions were very biased to white Americans and their culture - black Americans may feel inferior or incompetent which could effect their self esteem/mental wellbeing.
- Yerkes quotes racist ideas and the results suggest that the lighter the skin colour the higher the score which spreads discriminative racist ideals in society and reinforces incorrect stereotypes
- Therefore the research is socially sensitive as it has social consequences for black people
