What does ethical mean?
To have a moral consuderation for others when making decisions
What are advantages of being ethical?
- Grants and awards can be granted
- The business will have an ethical reputation so can attract new customers and quality staff
What are disadvantages of being ethical?
- It is time consuming to make decisions that appropriate and ethical
- Audits are needed to ensure standards are met and maintained
What are ways to be ethical?
- Philanthropy
- Animal welfare
- Fair trade
What is philanthropy?
This could be throuh charitable donations giving away goods or setting up a charitable cost as part of the business
What is animal welfare?
This night involve keeping animals and lifestock in good conditions not testing on animals
What is fairtrade?
This involves the supply of raw material to be bought at a fair price so employees are treated fairly.
What are advantages of fairtrade?
- Reputation improves
- Positive image
- Unique Selling Point
- Supplier are given fair proces
- Employees are treated fairly
What is the disadvantage of fairtrade?
It is expensive
What are advantages of being envirnmentally friendly?
- The business can gain a good reputation
- Awards that are granted can be used fro promotional purposes
What are the disadvantages of being envirmentally friendly?
- It is expensive in the short term
- The natural envirnment may not be suffiecient e.g. sunlight, wind speed
How might a business be envirnmentally friendly?
- Carbon footprint
- Sustainable raw materials
- Low waste
- Packaging
Carbon footprint:
This is when the organisation tries to reduce their carbon footprink e.g. by using renewable energy or low emission/ electric vehicles
Sustainable raw materials:
This ensures that the raw materials used by the business aren’t depleting. It means respecting the envirnment and leads to a positive reputation
Waste:
This ensure the organisation complies with duty of care in order to deal with waste appropriatly and means the organisation must segregate waste e.g. keep apart chemicals
Packaging:
This helps with PR ad ensures packaging is designed to be envirnmentally friendly e.g. being reusable, recyclable or biodegradable
