how does short or long term intrests relate to ethical egoism

A
  • ethical egoism doesnt always mean to pursue our short term intrests

Q

what is sterniers opinion on that we are all unique

A
  • stirner justifies the above by claiming all individiduals are unique
  • the reason we should only act in our own self intrest is because any attemot to satisfy teh needs of others will restrict our own unique ego.
  • therefore individuals in order to maximise their uniqiueness must concentrate all their actions purley on themselves

Q

what is stirner belive in the rejection of moral ethics and the conscience

A
  • in order to develop our own uniqueness stirner calls for us to reject our enslavemnt to moral frameworks imposed on us by others
  • stirner goes futher and even rejects following our own conscience - this is because the conscience is no more than an internalised set or moral values imposed on us by society - they arent a reflection of our own true unique ego
  • for stirner the only way to develpo our own slef ego is to reject all moral influences - instead we must concentrate purely on oursleves by develpoing our own unique sense of morality based purely upon our own unique ego
  • : Stirner rejects the concept of universal moral rules, arguing that they are imposed by external authorities to control and suppress the individual’s autonomy. Instead, he believes that moral norms are artificial constructs, “spooks” or “ghosts” of social and religious institutions that exist only because individuals allow them to have power over them. Stirner encourages people to liberate themselves from these “spooks” and act according to their own desires and needs.

Q

what is stirners belief on ownness

A
  • he belived that we should centre all miral actions upon ourselves because if we dont we arent being true to our own ego
  • Stirner’s concept of “ownness” goes beyond the material notion of property. It refers to the full ownership of one’s self and will. A person is truly free when they act in accordance with their own will, without being coerced by social, moral, or religious expectations. “Property” in this sense is any possession or relationship that an individual controls and uses for their own benefit, without being bound by external obligations.
17
Q

what is his belief on rejection of material gain

A
  • he says that ethical egoism isnt about material gain
  • he says that material gain can be part of an individual personal ego however it is just one part of the ego and to spend our life pursuing only that part of our ego is to deny all other parts of our ego
18
Q

what is his arguments of the union of egoists - fem

A
  • the union of egoists is his alternative way of organising modern society but on egoist principles - there is three principles
    1. free agreement - members cannot be forced ti join a particular union
      1. equality of all members - no one can tell any other member what to belive or what to think
      2. mutual self intrests - the union exists purley to help each individual in the union to achieve their own unique goals
  • the unions would exists to ensure they maximise an individuals own ego as well as ensuring that those involved sacrifice nothing of themsleves
19
Q

what does ethical egoism not say

A
  • it doesnt say that you should avoid actions that help others
  • it could be that by helping others you help youself - you scratch mine ill scratch yours
20
Q

what is hedonism

A

valuing or seeking pleasure of the highest value

21
Q

what is ego as a libertion

A

Stirner’s ethical egoism is liberating in its essence because it calls for individuals to recognize and embrace their own desires, rather than conforming to external expectations. Ethical egoism, for Stirner, is not about selfishness in the traditional sense (such as harming others for personal gain), but about freedom: the freedom to act in one’s own self-interest, unencumbered by societal or moral constraints. In his view, only when individuals stop submitting to external authorities can they fully realize their own potential and creativity.

22
Q

challanges

what is the challange of destruction of community

A
  • it could be argues that ethical egoism will lead to destruction of a community
  • for example - a homeless charity that helps those less fortunate within a community - ethical egoism could dimminish a community ethos because people will instead just concentrate upon their own self intrests
23
Q

challange

how is social injustices a challange

A
  • ethical egosim encourages the pursuit of an individuals own intrests.
  • however an individuals pursuit of their own self intrest could lead to other individuals suffering .
  • fpr example a particular egoists pursuit could be selfish acumulation of money
  • however there is onlky limited amount of money within society therefore as one individuald accumulates money it means other individuals have less
24
Q

challange

how is ethical egoism as a form of bigotry

A
  • a bigot is a person who is intolerant towards diffrent groups of peple - racial groups
  • bigots tent to belive that they are superior to other groupa
  • ethical egoism can be seen as a form of bigotry because it also divides people into me and evrryone else
