Ethical Decision Making & Last Lecture Flashcards
Most models include these 5 basic steps
Identification of the problem
Development of alternatives
Evaluation of alternatives
Implementation of the best option
Evaluation of the results
The textbook provides this 8 step model by Bush, Connell and Denney
Identify the Problem: Quite easy when it is blatantly unethical behavior. But most of the time, the ethical issues are much more subtle.
Consider the Significance of the Context and Setting: forensic psychology work varies widely – certain practices may be acceptable in specific settings or for specific services
Identify and use Ethical and Legal Resources: Review relevant professional codes and jurisdictional laws, position statements, and professional literature, and consult colleagues.
Consider Personal Beliefs and Values: attempt to understand the potential influences of one’s values in their behavior or perception of the situation.
Develop Possible Solutions to the Problem: generate potential solutions by integrating the first four steps.
Consider the Potential Consequences of Various Solutions: Anticipate each course of action’s positive and negative consequences.
Choose and Implement a Course of Action: Implement the most appropriate option, considering the correct timing.
Assess the Outcome and Implement Changes as Needed
