What is estrogen myelotoxicosis?
Sequella to hyperestrogenism. Causes anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia.
Tx of hyperestrinism
OVH for cystic ovaries.
Can give neupogen and epogen for estrogen myelotoxicosis.
What are the 3 types of testicular tumors?
Sertoli - can metastasize and feminize.
Seminoma - can metastasize and feminize.
Interstitial/Leydig - mets rare, feminize rare.
Sertoli cell neoplasia incidence
Age range 3-20y old (8-9)
Dogs with extrascrotal involvement with feminization may present at a younger age than dogs with scrotal involvement.
S/S of sertoli cell tumor
Testicular enlargement Feminization -16.7% w/ scrotal SCT -50% w/ inguinal SCT -70.4% w/ abdominal SCT
Feminization s/s
- atrophy of contralateral testicle
- symmetrical alopecia
- gynecomastia
- pendulous prepuce
- prostatic changes, metaplasia/infection
- tendency to attract other males
- depressed libido
- lethagy
Pyometra etiology
Hormonally influenced - progesterone.
Several drugs predispose - megestrol acetate
S/S pyometra
Onset of symptoms 4-12 weeks post estrus. PU/PD Vaginal discharge present in only 50-60% Anorexia Depression Abdominal distention Temp variable CATS MORE SUBTLE
Systemic effects of pyo-
anemia cardiac arrhythmias impaired renal function sepsis toxemia
Tx of pyo-
IV fluids
ABs that cover gram - bacteria
OVH
