A

There were only around 20,000 officials, they were chronically office-bound by paperwork and so relied on informants.

A

“Block Leaders” ensured that suspicious activity was reported to the authorities, Hitler Youth members reported the suspicious activity too, people in general often reported to the authorities.

A

Because they were already right wing (due to their socioeconomic circumstances) not many had much issue in joining the League of National Socialist Workers.

When was the Peoples’ Court set up, what was its structure and how was it used?

A

The Peoples’ Court was set up in April 1934 and had 3 Nazi Judges alongside 2 Professional Judges. There was no jury and the defendant had no right to appeal.
Between 1934 and 1939, 34,000 people were tried under this court, mainly former Communists and socialists.

Who were the SD?

A

In 1931, the Sicherhietsdienst, or SD, was set up as the internal security force of the Nazi party.
Post 1933, its job included intelligence gathering, monitoring public opinion and identifying those who voted “no” in plebiscites.

A

The SS were hitler’s personal bodyguard, eventually evolving into the main instrument of Nazi terror after the disposal of the SA after the Night of The Long Knives in 1934.
