Q

What does Marks mean when he says in the textbook, “The world is not only dependent on oil and natural gas for energy, but also on the particular social, economic, political, cultural and military complexes that have arisen to control it.”

A

world is dependent on these resources to run our machines and to run our cars but that is not all we depend on to keep going. If we do not have the economy or the politics we will not have the needs to get the oil and it seems that it depends on the culture that we live in that decide how and what we think about towards the oil industry. If you are a third world country you do not use oil as much but if you are a culture full of cars and other machines than oil is important to your culture. The military is a huge component that has been in control of who gets oil and who does not. Military’s have fought over this oil for years and other forms of energy. Many militaries protect their oil and natural energies from other countries and individuals. We depend on these materials to run our societies but it depends on where we live and the type of people that live there that truly decide what the extent of our energy use will be.
