Lec 10
How do you use present tense?
when using examples form the text use present tense verbs so referring to it as if it’s happening now.
what is in indirect and direct comparison?
Indirect comparison is subject-by-subject, so doing a paragraph on one person stating points, and then another paragraph of another person stating points. direct comparison is point-by-point, so having a paragraph comparing one point using both subjects and then doing another paragraph comparing a different pint using both subjects.
How to make a claim?
need to prove claim by offering a quote or paraphrasing from the text as evidence. claim-> evidence-> explanation. only give short quotes that serve as a reminder for evidence.
How to make a good argument using thesis statements?
thesis statement is a summary of claims that will be made in the argument. so you state claim and then state the reasons/evidence for why you think this. so directly answering the question. A narrow thesis statement lists the main claims (ie 3 ways the character transforms). lists title and author of work. thesis needs to be debatable and your trying to persuade someone with your evidence to agree with you.
What is parallelism?
using similar words, structure, pattern when listing similar elements in a sentence. so keeping consistency with use of verbs, nouns, etc.
