What is a thesis?
A statement describing the overall idea in an essay.
Where is a thesis found?
In the end of the first paragraph and the beginning of the last paragraph.
What are transitions used for?
To create space and flow between paragraphs and ideas.
Where are topic sentences found?
In every content paragraph.
What is a topic sentence?
A sentence stating the main point of a specific paragraph.
What is found in an introduction paragraph?
A “wow” opening sentence, filler, and your thesis.
What is found in a conclusion paragraph?
A thesis, quick summary of main points, and something to think about or do.
Why are supporting details necessary in essays?
They give examples or what the author is stating.
What would an essay be like with no elaboration?
It would have no proof or backup of the authors supporting details.
What is the purpose of a persuasive essay?
To get the reader to take a certain action or believe something.
Who do you write to when you are writing a persuasive essay?
Someone who believes the opposite of what you are trying to persuade them to believe. (The opposition)
What is the purpose of an informative essay?
To offer knowledge to the reader without forcing a certain opinion.
In what order should your paragraphs be in an informative essay?
Introduction, Middle, Weakest, Strongest, Conclusion
