Esp Day 2 Flashcards
Following one’s conscience is simply doing things his or her own way without considering the good of others.
- “What matters most is not whether my act was morally good or evil but I personally made the decision.”
- “Malinis ang kosensiya ko. Wala akong pakialam sa iba.”
- “Its between me and my conscience.”
- Conscience is Individualistic
We naturally relate the voice of our conscience to God, first, because God is created us as moral persons, and second, because God is the perfect norm of goodness.
This does not mean, however, that conscience is God’s own voice. Although God reveals Himself to us in many ways, especially in our moral judgements, we should not equate our conscience with God’s voice.
- Conscience is God’s Voice Within Us.
Sometimes we hear people say, “Nakaka- konsensiya ang ginawa ko.” Such as statement erroneously equates conscience with the feeling of guilt.
Guilt is often a sign that our conscience is at work, we must not equate our guilty with
- Conscience Is Our Feeling of Guilt.
Films and advertisements usually depict Human conscience in very entertaining, but misleading ways.
Examples:
An Idea of an angel and devil on one’s shoulders that implies that following conscience is simple an act of personal deliberation without reference to any objective Moral Standard.

- Perplexed conscience
We all have the Human capacity to use reason (1) to discern and Judge the moral goodness or evil of a particular act (2) with the feeling of being morally obliged to do what is good and avoid evil.
With this understanding we realized then that as persons, we are called not only to judge what is morally good but also “to do the right and to love goodness.”
Conscience Morally Obliges Us
➤ is the person’s norm of judging moral good or evil. Conscience being subjective means that an individual’s conscience is simply his or hers and no one else’s. An individual conscience has a unique role that nothing or no one else can perform. It judges what one must do or avoid by applying objective moral law to concrete moral acts.
Since no moral law or commandment applies itself, there is an absolute need for the function or role of conscience
1 SUBJECTIVE CONSCIENCE
We are all persons in community. This means that our conscience while intimately ours, is formed by the universal values and norms we learn from others.
The relational nature of our conscience flows directly from our relational nature as person.
Our conscience are guided by the fundamental human values grounded in laws that govern our social relationships
- OBJECTIVE CONSCIENCE
