ES + 6. Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Mountain Ranges  Flashcards

1
Q

How are hotspot volcanoes formed?

A

So in summary, the very hot, rising mantle plume from a deep hot spot melts through the crust to erupt and build volcanoes, which then move away as the plate shifts, allowing new volcanoes to form over the stationary hot spot. This creates a chain of volcanoes over geological time.

A rising mantle plume melts through the curst and builds volcanoes, overtime the plates move and form a series of islands

Dome mountains

A

In this mountain formation, the
molten rocks or magma try to
make its way to the surface but
can not form a volcano

Q

Fault Block mountains

A

In this mountain formation, the crust swells and experiences stress and tension, the stress is released causing a graben to slide down.
