What is Erythropoiesis?
Erythropoiesis is the process by which red blood cells.
Where does erythropoiesis begin?
Liver, spleen and lymph nodes before birth
Where does Erythropoiesis continue during the last stages of pregnancy and after birth?
Bone Marrow
Where does erythropoiesis occur during childhood vs adulthood?
All bones vs flat bones mainly sternum, pelvic bones, vertebrae.
What do stem cells give rise to?
Myeloid series cells arising from the bone marrow and Lymphoid series cells arising from lymphoid tissue
What is the RBC Maturation Program in order?
Hemocytoblast—>
Proerythroblast
Erythroblast
Normoblast
Reticulocyte
Erythrocyte!!
What happens to a normoblast to mature into a reticulocyte?
It looses its nucleus
When a reticulocyte loses the rest of its organelles what does it become?
An erythrocyte
What is required for Erythropoiesis?
Iron, Vitamin B12, Folate, Androgens and Cobalt salt.
