- hypersensitivity reaction
- commonly triggered by infections

- target lesions
- initially seen on back of hand and feet then spreads to torso
-upper limb are mostly affected - may present with puritis

- HSV (most common)
- idiopathic
- bacterial (mycoplasma and streptococcus)
- drugs- penicillin, allopurinol, NSAIDs, sulphonamides, OCP, carbamazepine
- SLE
- sarcoidosis
- malignancy
