What is the pathogenesis of Erysipelothrix?
A
- Transmission usually by ingestion of contaminated material
- Also, commensals - tonsils
- Entry via tonsils or abrasions
- Depression of host defences, multiplication of virulent strains, and invasion of neutrophils
- Acute septicemia - fever, anorexia, DIC, hemorrhage, lymphadenitis
- Sub-acute - malaise, fever, DIC
- epidermal lesions - Diamonds
- Chronic - arthritis, endocarditis
