Eruptive Tooth Movement Flashcards
how does eruptive tooth movement occur?
- pressure
2. tension
what are the 3 possible explanations of eruptive tooth movement?
- root formation
- bone remodeling
- periodontal ligament
explain the root formation
you start to see the crown of the tooth appear in the mouth and while that is occurring the root is forming below it
….as the root elongates, it puts pressure on the bone and causes the tooth to either rise up or down into the oral cavity
explain the periodontal ligament
periodontal ligament fibers can contract because we know that the tooth is held by a ligament and a bone.
…we have some fibroblast or other contractile type cells in there, that they can contract and cause the tooth to erupt into the oral cavity. (that works really well for rabbits, rodents and sheep, etc.—Polyphiodonts)
explain the bone remodeling
where there is a creation of “Gubernacular Canals”. there are osteoclasts that destroy bone creating a canal or a pathway so that the tooth can erupt
which is the acceptable explanation/theory?
Bone Formation
