Eruption Patterns Flashcards
What is the typical eruption pattern of primary teeth?
abdce
From what ages, do primary teeth erupt?
6 months to 2.5 years.
What are the first permanent teeth to erupt into the mouth?
Upper and Lower first permanent molars
Lower centrals
All at 6 years old.
What teeth erupt at 7 years old?
Upper centrals and lower laterals.
What teeth erupt at 8 years old?
Upper laterals.
When do the lower canines erupt?
9/10 years old.
When do the upper canines erupt?
11/12 years old.
When do the upper first premolars erupt?
10/11 years old.
When do the lower first premolars erupt?
10-12 years old.
When do the upper second premolars erupt?
10-12 years old.
When do the lower second premolars erupt?
11-12 years old.
When do the second molars erupt?
12-12 years old.
When do the third molars tend to erupt?
17-21 years old.
Commonly missing teeth.
Which permanent teeth are calcified before birth?
Only the tips of first permanent molars.
Which primary teeth are calcified before birth?
1/2 of centrals and first molars.
1/3 of laterals and second molars
Tips of canines.
What is the eruption pattern of primary teeth?
Centrals- 4-6 months
Laterals- 7-16 months
First molar- 13-19 months
Canine- 16-22 months
Second molars- 15-33 months
What are some of the differences between primary and permanent teeth?
Primary teeth are whiter, smaller, molars are more bulbous, pulp horns extend further occlusal, ribbon shaped roots and canals, incisors are more upright, molars wider mesio-distally compared to their successors, thinner coronal dentine.
What is anthropoid or primate spacing?
Spacing medially to the upper primary canine.
Spacing distally to the lower primary canine.
What is leeway space?
Space occupied mesio-distally by the first and second primary molars, is wider than the space required for the first and second premolars.
Upper- 1.5mm
Lower 2.5mm
When does the mixed dentition stage start and end?
Starts when the first permanent tooth erupts into the mouth and ends when the last primary tooth exfoliates.
When is root formation complete?
From the date of eruption, it takes around 3 years for the permanent tooth root to complete apexogenesis.
What are the theories for tooth eruption?
Dental follicle initiates osteoclastic activity of the alveolar bone.
Cellular proliferation at the apex of the tooth
Localised changed in blood pressure/hydrostatic pressure
