Q

What are telomers

A

Specialized structures found at the end of chromosomes. Protect end of chromosome from nucleases and maintain the integrity of chromosomes.

Q

Explain transcription process of protein synthesis.

A

Its a synthesis of RNA molecules using DNA strands as a template so G info transfer from DNA to RNA

Start at promoter DNA, ends at terminator DNA.

Pre RNA is produced

RNA polymerase (production of RNA)

Separates DNA molecules by breaking H bonds

Enzyme move along DNA strands- links RNA nucleotides together.

Q

Explain RNA processing

A

Maturation of pre-RNA
molecules occurs in the
nucleus

Introns spliced out by
splicesome-enzyme and
exons come together
End product= mature RNA

Q

What is an intron and an exon

A

Intron= intragenic region made of non-coding DNA
sequences between exons in a gene.
Exon=exon = expressed DNA sequences in a gene, code for
amino acids
