Erotic desire in patriarchal men is used as an excuse to have power over women.

In TGG, erotic desire is used by those less fortunate in society to try to gain more status or wealth and acheive the American Dream. BUT in S116 love is presented as something that transcends earth and the tangibility of the human world.

Finally, both of the authors present how relationships built on erotic desire are not meant to last forever, but rather to be a short lived thing.
