What is Abrasion/Corrasion

A

The rock fragments and stones that are carried by the river are scraped against its bed and banks wearing them away (almost like sandpaper)

A

The sheer force of the turbulent waves hitting the river bank will squeeze air into the cracks in the rock and dislodge material (like a powerhouse)

Water in the river will be slightly acidic and so will react with rocks of a certain chemical composition (e.g. chalk and limestone) this dissolves them

A

As fragments of rock carried in the river knock against each other pieces are broken away. As the load moves downstream and the attrition process continues the rock fragments become smaller and smoother
