Erector Spinae Flashcards
What is the propose of the Erector spine muscles?
Largest group of deep back muscles that serve as extensors of the back
Where is the general area of Erector Spinae in the lumbar region?
They lie deep to the posterior layer of the thoracolumbar fascia but superficial to the middle layer.
How does the individual fibers of the erector spine group extend?
they span 6-10 vertebral levels
Where from does all erector spine muscles arise?
common tendon attached to: spine of inferior lumbar vertebrae posterior sacrum iiliac crest sacroilliac ligaments
What are the muscles in the erector spine group?
spinalis
longissimus
iliocostalis
How are the groups in the erector spine group subdivided?
by vertebral region of its superior attachment (insertion) lumborum thoracis cervicis capitus
What is the origin of ilicostalis group?
common tendon of erector spinae or lower ribs
most lateral of the erector spinae group
Where does iliocostalis insert?
angle of the ribs
transverse process of lower cervical vert only
What is the iliocostalis group?
iliocostalis:
lumborum
thoracis
cervicis
Where is ilicostalis lumborum fibers located?
most inferior of ilicostalis group
common tendon to the 6th rib
Where is ilicostalis thoracis fibers located?
Middle group of illicostalis
6th to first rib and TV of C7
Where is iliocostalis cervicis located?
most superior
3rd rib and TV of C4
What are the longisimus group?
Thoracis
cervicis
capitus
Where doe the longisimus group attach?
Inferior - (TV)
superior - ribs (lateral to the turbcle), TV of vert, mastoid process
Where is the longissimus thoracis located?
Inferior - common tendon to thoracic TV
superior - 3rd rib
