  • Interleukins - stimulate HPA axis which in turn suppresses the immune system as glucocorticoids exhibit their effects

Hypothalamus - CRH (corticotropin releasing hormone)
Pituitary - ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
Adrenal gland - glucocorticoids

GCs such as cortisol suppress the immune system, preventing the immune system from reacting too intensely
