Equipment In Lab (1) Flashcards
holds solid or liquids that will not release gases when reacted or are unlikely to splatter if stirred or heated
Beaker
Hold solids or liquid that may release gases during a reaction or that are likely to splatter if stirred or heated
Erlenmeyer Flask
Used for mixing of chemicals
Florence flasks
Used to measure volumes of liquids
Graduated cylinder
When large volumes of gases are produced, and must be collected by the displacement of water
Gas collecting bottle
Is useful for holding a test tube which is too hot to handle
Test tube holder
are used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinder
Test tube brushes
used for holding and organizing test tubes on the laboratory counter
Test tube racks
used to close containers to avoid spillage or contamination
Rubber stopper
used when we want to perform many small scale reactions at one time
Spot plates
used to hold a small amount of solid, such as the product of a reaction
watch glass
Used to manually stir solutions. It can also be used to transfer a single drop of solution.
glass stir rod
Used to transfer a small amount of liquid (less than 1ml)
Medicine dropper
Blue-used to identify acids
Red-used to identify bases
Litmus paper
can also be called “tweezers”, are used to pick up small objects.
Forceps
Used to aid in the transfer of liquid from one vessel to another.
Funnel
Measures and delivers the exact volumes of liquids.
Mohr pipet
Has a spout that delivers a wash solution solution to a specific areas (distilled water is the only liquid that should be used in a wash bottle)
Wash bottle
used to weigh solids that will be transferred to another vessel
Weighing boat
Used to dispense solid chemicals from their containers.
Spatulas
Used to move beaker containing hot liquids
Beaker tongs
Used for the heating of nonvolatile liquids and solid
Bunsen burner
Used for heating of stable solid compounds and elements.
Evaporating dish
Used for heating certain solids, particularly metals, to a very high temperature.
Crucible
Used as a support for porcelain crucibles when being heated over a bunsen burner.
Clay triangle
Used to pick up other hot objects. (Not for picking up beakers)
Crucible tongs
Provides a surface for semi-micro scale experiments, such as drop reactions and testing of acids and bases.
Glass plates
Used primarily to cut glass rods.
Triangular File
Connect to a ring stand and provide a stable, elevated platform for the reaction.
Iron rings
Used to secure test tubes, distillation columns, and buret to the ring stand.
Utility clamps
Used to burets-longs graduated tubes used in titration.
Double buret clamps
It’s on the iron ring, to provide a place to stand a beaker.
Wire Gauze
Provides a surface for hot beakers so that the beaker does not come in contact with a cold countertop and shatter.
Pressed fiber pad
Used to light bunsen burner.
Strikers
