How do you activate the essex PBE?

A

Activate the hood by sharply snapping the oxygen cylinders away from each other. This sharp action pulls on the two cords that trigger the oxygen flow and activates the green light on the Service/End-of-Service Indicator.

Q

how often should you check a pax on oxygen?

A

A passenger receiving oxygen should be checked every 15 minutes. 100 PSI should be left in the cylinder after using portable oxygen. This will help avoid corrosion
and makes refilling less complicated.

Q

what are some precautions for using oxygen?

A

• Avoid bumping/dropping the cylinder.
• No ignition sources within four metres of oxygen equipment.
• Avoid contact between oxygen equipment and oils or grease.
• Remove make-up from the person before administering oxygen.
• When administering oxygen to a passenger, the cylinder must be secured, to prevent movement
and possible injury during turbulence or other unanticipated aircraft movement.
• When Cabin Crew are required to fit an oxygen cylinder while moving around the cabin, fit the
carry strap over the head and shoulder to ensure the cylinder is secure. Keep the cylinder to the
front of the body so the gauge can be monitored.
