When preparing to do AROM, what are you assessing for?

A
  • dilation (should be at least 5cm?)
  • presenting part – should not AROM if pp is cord
  • presence of meconium

Describe how to use the amnihook for AROM

A

Maneuver amnihook with non dominant hand. Use dominant hand to guide the hook past the cervix + use scratching motion to break the bags.

Describe how to use an amnicot for AROM

A

Don sterile glove on dominant hand. Roll amnicot on index finger of dominant hand. Guard hook as you insert hand. Scratch at the surface of the bags once its deemed safe to do so (with assessment)
