- Protective layer against skin
○ Holds dressing in place

○ Smooth substance against skin
§ Rouching would lead to bandage sores
§ Exacerbates problems- Single layer of padding
○ Cotton wool or gamgee (gauze - more durable) - Conforming bandage
○ Holds everything in place - Outer finishing layer
○ Vet wrap
