Local anaesthesia for examine/operating on equine eye

A

Sedate to examine alpha-2 +/- opioid
Auriculo palpebral block- blocks motor function to upper eyelid

Tropicamide or atropine (longer lasting) give pupil dilation for examination
For procedure:
	Infratrochlear
	Zygomatic
	Lacrimal
	Ring of local around the eye
If removing eye retro bulbar- reserve for enucleation as can cause eye damage
Licenced locals
	Mepivacaine
	Lidocaine
	Procaine- licenced but causes fur/skin to change colour above where its applied 
	Bupivacaine- not licensed but longer lasting 
NSAIDS
