Equilibrium constant Flashcards
1
Q
what does equilibrium constant tell us?
A
- the actual position of the equilibrium
- the magnitude tells us whether there are more products or reactants in a system
2
Q
How do you write Kc expressions?
A
products in sqaure brackets and with state signs over reactants in sqaure brackets
3
Q
what does the value of kc tell us?
A
- a KC value of 1 indicates that the position of equlibrium is halfway between products and reactants
- a KC value above 1 tells us that equilibrium is toward the products
- a kc value below 1 tells us that equilibrium is toward the reactants
4
Q
What is a heterogenous reaction
A
an equilibrium where species are in different states and phases
5
Q
what is a homogenous reaction
A
an equilibrium where species are all in the same states
6
Q
what is omitted and kept in Kc reactions?
A
- solids and liquids are emitted and aqueous and gasses are kept
7
Q
How do you calculate equilibrium from experimental data
A
- calculate equilibrium moles of all products and reactants using ICE
- calculate concentrations
- plug these into kc expressionstf
8
Q
what are the default units of kc
A
mol dm -3
