Equilibrium Flashcards
What is Le Chatelier’s principle?
If a system at equilibrium is subjected to a change the equilibrium tends to shift so as to minimise the effect of the change
What factors can shift the equilibrium?
Concentration of reactants or products
Pressure(gases)
Temperature
What happens if you increase the concentration?
Increasing concentration on one side pushes equilibrium to other side
What happens if you increase the pressure?
The equilibrium shifts to the side with the least number of moles
What happens if you increase the temperature?
An increase in temperature pushes the equilibrium in the endothermic direction
What happens to equilibrium in the presence of a catalyst?
No effect on position.. But Reached faster
What is dynamic equilibrium?
A system is in dynamic equilibrium when the forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rate
