Equilibrium Flashcards
What is a reversible reaction?
A reversible reaction is a chemical change in which the products can be converted back to the original reactants under suitable conditions. This means a reaction can go in either direction.
A reversible reaction is shown by the sign: ⇌
What reaction conditions could change a reaction’s direction?
- Temperature.
- Pressure.
- Amount of reactant or product.
What is dynamic equilibrium?
It occurs in a closed system, when the rates of the forward and reverse reactions are equal and when the amounts of reactants and products remain constant.
What is a closed system?
A closed system is one where no substances can get in or out.
What is an open system?
An open system allows entry and exit of substances.
