Equilibrium 1 Flashcards
1
Q
state of dynamic equilibrium
A
- the rate of the forward reaction is equal to the rate of the backward reaction
- the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant
2
Q
effect of a change in temperature on a homogeneous system in equilibrium
A
- if the temperature is increased
- shifts to the side of the products of endo reaction
3
Q
effect of a change in concentration on a homogeneous system in equilibrium
A
- if the concentration of reactants is increased
- equi shifts to the right
- so reducing the concentration of the reactants again
- this process increases the concentration of the products
4
Q
effect of a change in pressure on a homogeneous system in equilibrium
A
- if the pressure of the system is increased
- the system shifts to the side with the least moles -reducing the number of molecules present and so reducing the pressure
5
Q
equilibrium in the industrial process
A
- create conditions which give the optimum yield
eg. conditions for a good equilibrium yield from an exothermic reaction require a low temperature however that means low rate so have to compromise
6
Q
calculating Kc, equilibrium constant
A
[products]/[reactants]
if it is 2A then it is [A}^2
solid substances don’t have a concentration so are not included
